We’re officially 3 weeks into the New Year…

How do you feel like your habits and routines are serving you?

It's time to take a step back and assess our routines. Are they serving us well? Are they helping us thrive? Are they supporting our goals? Or have they become stagnant and unfulfilling? In this blog post, we'll explore five signs that indicate it's time to hit the reset button on our routines.

1. Your Season Has Changed, But Your Routine Hasn't

We all go through different seasons in our lives. Different priorities take precedence, and we have to adapt. But, as the seasons change, so do our needs, and our routines should probably change with them. But what do we do instead? We hold onto a routine that worked for you in the past but doesn't align with your current season of life, which is a clear sign that it's time for a refresh. Embrace the opportunity to embrace new habits and adapt your routine to better support your current goals and aspirations.

2. You've Tried to Copy and Paste Someone Else's Routine

Dude—no judgment, I have done this. Literally, that’s a FREEBIE in the coaching industry that I have bought. Steal my routine! Steal my schedule! There are entire books written about routines. I read the Miracle Morning and loved it. I loved it for a long time in fact.

We all admire successful individuals and their routines. However, blindly adopting someone else's routine without considering our unique needs and preferences can lead to frustration and burnout, especially when we don’t listen to the red flags that our mind, body, and spirit are sending us. It’s one thing to take inspiration from others, but we have to tailor it to our specific needs.

3. You've Outgrown Your Current Routine

Growth is a beautiful thing, but it can also leave our routines feeling outdated and inadequate. I’ve run into this so so so much recently and I think that’s why I’ve been struggling so much this year because what routines had worked so well for me so long are just NOT anymore. I’m feeling unmotivated. I’m feeling stagnant.

If you've been feeling like you've outgrown your current routine, you probably have. That’s a good sign and that’s a sign that it's time to level up. Explore new activities, set more ambitious goals, and challenge yourself to create a routine that supports your current stage of personal growth.

4. You're Too All-or-Nothing About Your Routine

This might not be a reset to your routine, but this might definitely be a reset you need to make to your mindset—routines should not be all-or-nothing. Consistency is key and consistency is fricken great. But, being too rigid and all-or-nothing about your routine can backfire and frankly it’s not a good approach to routines and habits for high-achievers because our standards for ourselves are already so high.

Life is unpredictable, and it's essential to be adaptable. In fact, it’s a way I recommend approaching your routines. They need to adapt to our schedules. If you find yourself feeling guilty or stressed when you deviate from your routine even slightly, loosen up. Find a more flexible approach that allows for spontaneity and self-care and shift your mindset.

5. You're Overcomplicating Your Routine

This can’t just be a me thing, right? I’m not the only one that overcomplicates things, right? Our routines can’t be that.

Our routines should simplify our lives. They should create ease. They should make things easier. That’s the whole point of a routine. It’s not about adding unnecessary complexity. So, if a convoluted routine that leaves you feeling overwhelmed and drained, it's time to streamline and simplify. Focus on the essential activities and eliminate any unnecessary steps or tasks.

Remember, routines are meant to serve us, not the other way around. If you resonate with any of these signs, it's time to hit the reset button and create a routine that supports your growth, happiness, and overall well-being.
